The SXSW Film Festival was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic, but you can stream its short film online!

Mailing list organization company Mailchimp has teamed up with boutique distributor Oscilloscope Laboratories to stream SXSW shorts online for free. Click here to check them out! You don’t need to log in or create any kind of account. The films will be available to stream for a couple more weeks.

The SXSW shorts collection includes 75 films, from narratives and documentaries to animated films and films made by high schoolers in Texas (where SXSW was originally set to take place).

Some notable SXSW shorts include the following films:

Regret by Santiago Menghini

Regret won the festival’s Midnight Shorts category. It tells the story of a man who must confront his inner demons after his father’s death. It was also featured at the Sundance Film Festival.

Symbiosis by Nadja Andrasev

With a mixture of 2D animation, collage and photographs, Symbiosis by Nadja Andrasev is a unique film about a jealous woman on a mission to find out about her partner’s sexual experiences with other people. It won a festival Grand Jury Prize.

No Crying at the Dinner Table by Carol Nguyen

Documentary No Crying at the Dinner Table won SXSW’s Grand Jury Prize and also appeared at the 2019 Toronto Film Festival. Filmmaker Carol Nguyen explores her own family history in this tale of trauma, grief, and secrets.

Dirty by Matthew Puccini

Special SXSW Jury Recognition was given to Dirty, a narrative short film by Matthew Puccini. Also a Sundance film, it follows a young man who cuts class to spend time with his boyfriend.
